GirlKIND is very grateful to be a part of The Mosaic Institute's "Next Generation: Global Citizenship Project." A project that is partnered with the Vancouver School Board to involve and engage Vancouver high school students to help promote peace and active global citizenship as well as develop youth leadership & encourage civic participation. This is an amazing opportunity to actively see youth be a part of social change, we look forward to seeing the outcomes of this initiative.

Many of us gathered together to mark International Women's Day and One Billion Rising at Civic Plaza in Abbotsford on March 8, 2014 as a part of a worldwide movement to end violence against women and girls. It was a collective effort by all our respective partners to make this day possible which included: The Reach Gallery Museum, GirlKIND Foundation, Centre for Indo-Canadian Studies at the University of the Fraser Valley, Abbotsford Community Services, Women's Resource Society of the Fraser Valley, Unifor local 114, International Centre for Criminal Law Reform & Criminal Justice Policy & the Abbotsford Police Dept.
During our outdoor part we danced in the rain, drummed, listened to each others stories and gained strength in one another. For our indoor part we watched a short documentary on how women in Afghanistan are making a difference in their communities to better advocate for women's rights through film, art & music. Thereafter we listened to the compelling story of our keynote speaker Rumana Monzur whose very journey left many of us inspired and grateful for all that we have. It was an incredible day with some incredible women.

You are invited to join us as we mark International Women’s Day & 1Billion Rising in a joint effort on March 8, 2014.
The amalgamation of International Women’s Day and One Billion Rising is a day to celebrate the inspirational and brave work women around the world are doing to secure women’s and girl’s rights and create better and equitable societies. It is also a day to reflect on the work that remains and remember the many women whose voices go unheard and who continue to be excluded from realizing their full potential. One Billion Rising will turn the world stage into an arena for events worldwide, asking women and girls to find or organize an event in their community, and stop, gather, dance and celebrate the right of all women and girls to live peacefully and free from violence.
It just takes one girl to make a difference. What are you waiting for? Get involved, join the movement!
